Linda C. Tavis

Linda C. TavisLinda C. Tavis has been practicing exclusively family law since 1991. She became a Family Law Specialist certified by the California State Bar in 1996. Ms. Tavis has assisted clients in varied family law matters, including complex custody, visitation, interstate custody disputes, child support (initial award, interstate, and modification), paternity, complex property divisions and post judgment modifications of custody, visitation and spousal support awards. Ms. Tavis has been a settlement conference panelist for the Sonoma County Superior Court. She has been appointed as an attorney for children in highly contested cases when the Court has determined legal representation for the child would be in the child’s best interests.

Ms. Tavis has served as a private custody settlement facilitator to resolve custody disputes between parents who wish to avoid the emotional and financial stress of a custody trial. In cases where resolution by means other than trial were unsuccessful, Ms. Tavis has extensive experience in litigating high conflict cases where the issue of child custody, child visitation [Parental timeshare], property division or modification of previous court orders could not be accomplished by other means of resolution. Ms. Tavis is available to act in the role of Special Master for custody issues.

Opposing parties in Ms. Tavis’s cases have referred clients to Ms. Tavis for representation in their dissolution.

Ms. Tavis has volunteered with community nonprofits and served on the Hospice of Petaluma Board of Directors, the Memorial Hospice Board of Directors and the Social Advocates for Youth Board of Directors. She was a member on the Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women. Presently Ms. Tavis is President of the Family Justice Center Sonoma County Board of Directors. Ms. Tavis is married, lives locally, has four adult children and three grandchildren. She is a self-proclaimed iPad Geek who enjoys photography.

After more than 20 years litigating, negotiating, and resolving complex and high-conflict Family Law matters, Ms. Tavis has decided to limit her practice to consultations, case analysis, and litigation support. She remains a viable, active, and important member of the Tavis & Bunyard team.

Linda represented me in an extremely difficult post judgment alimony negotiation. She was always professional and clear in what we could hope to achieve. I appreciate that she did not tell me what I wanted to hear, but what my best and worst case scenarios were. I am thankful that she did not lead me down a costly and destructive path of fighting. Instead she focused on how to get the case settled as quickly as possible under the circumstances. I cannot compliment Linda and her staff enough on the professional manner in which they handled my case.
